Prof. Jagbir Singh is the Chancellor of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. He is also Advisor, Centre on Studies in Guru Granth Sahib, Amritsar; Member of the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla (nominated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India); and a Life Fellow of the Punjabi University, Patiala. Formerly, he was the Head of the Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi, and also Adjunct Professor, Department of Religious and Civilizational Studies, Sri Guru Granth Sahib (SGGS) World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. Prof. Singh has over 50 years of experience in teaching and research on Gurbani, Folklore, Fiction, Literary Theory, and Religious and Civilizational Studies. He has received several awards for his work such as the Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar Award, Bhasha Vibhag, Punjab (2016); Param Sahit Satkar Sanman, Punjabi Academy, Delhi (2014); and Guru Nanak Dev Achievers Award, Government of Punjab (2019) amongst others. He has also contributed with his scholarship to several large research projects including the Encyclopaedia of Indian Literature (Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi) (Contributor); History of Punjabi Literature (Punjabi Academy, Delhi) (Contributor); Encyclopaedia of Indian Poetics (Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi) (Contributor); and Encyclopedia of Hinduism (Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh, published by Rupa) (Associate Editor).
