The Assisi Declarations: Messages on Humanity and Nature from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam & Judaism

The Buddhist Declaration on Nature penned by Venerable Lungrig Namgyal Rinpoche, Abbot of Gyuto Tantric University, and The Hindu Declaration on Nature written by His Excellency Dr Karan Singh, President, Hindu Virat Samaj, are two of the five original Faith Declarations on Nature taken from the original Assisi Declarations – Messages on Humanity and Nature from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam & Judaism. These were created in 1986, at a meeting held in Basilica Di S. Francesco in Assisi, Italy by WWF-International on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary. The meeting stemmed from an idea by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at which five leaders of the five major world religions – Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism – were invited to come and describe from their respective scriptures, teachings and traditions, their views on caring for the natural world.
